Pharma competitive intelligence follows what competing companies and products are doing and works out what it means. A typical program tracks competitors’ clinical trials and results, regulatory submissions and decisions, label changes, congress presentations, pricing and coverage, patents and exclusivity, and deals and partnerships.
The work feeds many parts of the business. Brand teams use it to plan positioning and launches. Leadership uses it to judge risk. Business development uses it to spot assets and threats. Market access and medical teams use it to prepare for what competitors will say and do.
Pharma is unusually transparent, because trials must be registered, regulators publish decisions and listed companies disclose material events. Most of what a CI team needs is public. The value lies in seeing it early, putting it in context, and answering the question “so what?”
Ethical competitive intelligence uses public information and legitimate research. It never misrepresents who is asking, never seeks confidential information, and avoids exchanging competitively sensitive information with competitors.
